Transcript: Federalist and Anti-Federalist Highlight presentation Constitutional Convention In knowing that they had a weak central government, the Continental Congress tried to change the government policy to make it stronger. The Articles of Confederation were the solution, and all the states voted on passing it. The Federal System State Constitutions The Continental Congress made all of the states make their own constitution's and government, as opposed to one, United nation. Because each states and its inhabitants were so afraid of a strong, central government, they limited the power of the governor. The delegates met to discuss the Virginia plan and New Jersey plan for a new government, after finding the Articles couldn't provide a very strong government. In the end, the states compromised. Articles of Confederation The constitution caused split opinions and support. The Federalists were supporters of the constitution and anti-federalist were opposed to a stronger government The Federal system divided the powers between the government and the states. The shared powers were split so that no one branch of government would gain too much power.
