Transcript: Students each have individual log in information through their school email account. This account is linked to the principal and technology teacher who is able to see websites visited throughout the day. Although most sites like Youtube are blocked on school grounds, certain cites may not be blocked by the firewall. The linked student account flags websites that are innapropriate and alerts the teacher and principal of who accessed this site and when. Q4: What is the main purpose for using computers/technology in school? Background of School School devices are kept on a mobile device cart which is securely stored in the faculty room, or in certain classrooms. Teachers must sign out devices to use them so that they are all accounted for. Desktop computers in the computer lab are all numbered and students have a specific computer that they are allowed to have access to. BYOT devices are kept in a safe location in the classroom and brought back and forth to school every night. Students are allowed to bring their own technology from home if they perfer to use that over the school chrombooks. In order to be eligable students must fill out a BYOT form and then meetin with the technology teacher to be placed on the secured intnernet network. Crompond Elementary school is an very technology integrated school. Most classes are utilizing some form of technology at least once every single day. The students collaborate with each other and their teachers on projects and assignments through the use of technology. The teachers rely on the use of the SmartBoard to effectively deliver their lesson plans to the students. This experience was extremely beneficial because I was able to see first hand how technology impacts a classroom setting. It is amazing how much more can be done in a fully technology integrated classroom. Placement and Care of Devices Q3: What subjects do you use technology in? Student Technology Survey Routines in the Computer Lab Once a week students visit the computer lab where they work on Desktop computers on specific projects, completing assignments or on programs such as Reading A-Z Interview with Computer Lab Teacher Student Technology Survey Cont. Use classroom Dell Desktops for Planning Use SmarBoards in all subjects while giving daily lessons. Smartboards are a key factor in lesson delivery. Use Google programs such as Google Slides, Google Docs and Google Art. Collaborate with collegues and students by using the share feature on Google to share documents and work together. Because students are using computers and technology throughout the day everyday, they are extremely proficient in computer use. They no longer need word processing or keyboarding lessons as they once had in the past. Computer lab time is a time, once a week, where the entire class meets in the lab on a computer. The class uses this time to complete typing writing assignments, to work on special projects, or to learn about new computer programs and websites that they can use in their studies. Crompond Elementary School Grades 4 and 5 only In order to gain general knowledge about how students were using technology on a daily basis during the school day I administered a Survey Monkey survey. The findings are as follows. Code of Conduct Majority of my time was spent within a 4th grade classroom observing their technology use over the course of several days Overall Reflection Student Technology Survey Conclusions Q1: What forms of technology do you use throughout the day? Observations of Technology Use: Students Observations of Technology Use: Teachers Policies for Monitoring Internet Use Q2: What forms of technology do your teachers use throughout the school day? Majority of class uses school devices which are Google Chromebooks A handful of students have devices from home which range from iPads to Dells and Macs Students mostly utilize the Google Slides and Google Docs programs. They use these for projects and assignments. Students "share" documents with one another which allows them to collaborate and work in groups on the same documents at the same time. Students interact with the SmartBoard periodically throughout the day Students attend a computer lab class once a week In the fourth grade class I observed in the students and teacher worked collaboratively to come up with a technology code of conduct to follow in school. The document was "shared" with the class and each student signed their name in awknoledgement. Q5: Do you bring a device from home or use a school device? Bring Your Own Technology: BYOT Q6: Do you enjoy using technology in school? Fieldwork Presentation Based on the survey results it is clear that all students enjoy using technology in school. The most common devices used are Google Chromebooks and typically during Writing class. Most students said they use either Google Docs or Google Slides for assigment and presentations in class.
