Uncapped Stone Presentation

Transcript: What the Future Holds Emma Kuykendall's Uncapped Stone Presentation Cal State TEACH - April 10, 2022 Topic 1 Before I delve into future next steps, I'd like to reflect on how I got here. These are what I'd refer to as my "stepping stones" of learning: Self Awareness Self Awareness In critically analyzing my own funds of knowledge, personal biases; conscious and unconscious, and then reflecting on a select student’s funds of knowledge and their classroom experience, I was able to form a truly deep understanding of how both mine and my students’ multicultural identities play a critical role in their learning experiences. Although it is just a starting point to providing an equitable environment for students, all teachers must take the time to get to know themselves and their student's cultural identities. Feedback Feedback Without the support from my faculty advisor and cohort, I would not feel nearly as equipped and ready for this next journey as I am. After each observation, I always felt safe and empowered to make mistakes, adapt and improve; the perfect example of how a student should feel in a classroom. I learned so many instructional strategies from Dr. Lam that I will 100% take with me in my future classrooms. I now know to always have student attention, keep them accountable and give students think time in order to provide a positive, successful learning environment.
