He also made the animals that live in land, sea and sky. Man Man God created man in his image and after He created Adam, God gave him Eve to be his companion. God created a garden in Eden and he placed man there to cultivate and care for the garden. In the middle of the garden, He put the tree of knowledge of good and evil and told them not to eat from it. Garden of Eden Garden of Eden The Fall of Man The Fall The snake, who was the most cunning of all the animals God had created, tempts Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge by telling her that it's fruit will make her like God. Transcript: The whole article has only positive views on the ad. However both Waterlow's and Brooker's showed the discussion and popularity of the ad shown in 2011 Recognisable Campaigns? http://www.myretailmedia.com/blog/tag/john_lewis.php accessed 6/10/12 To conclude... Unlike Brooker, Waterlow does not present her own view on the advert but talks through the motions of the ad, describing it to the audience. As well as this it is not written for those seeking to mock but those who are genuinely interested in the campaign yet not within industry. We can tell this by the fact it is in a widely read newspaper, references last years campaign and gives us facts (John Lewis started trading in 1925", "£7m campaign") The register is more formal than Brooker's as it is written in the third person as opposed to the first but still accessible to a wide audience. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sustainable-business/blog/advertising-not-evil-values accessed on: 6/10/12 Not as widely read. More likely to be read by those more interested by the industry Charlie Brooker Adam & Eve The views presented are those from John Lewis, so will obviously be speaking well about the campaign Daily Mail http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/news/1054575/John-Lewis-expands-online-retail-Europe/ accessed 6/10/12 This article has still quite an accessible register but references the agency who made the campaigns as well as the Creative Circle awards, suggesting the readership has knowledge within the field. The article is sometimes unclear - at points we are not sure which campaign they are referencing, this and the fact the magazine is fairly un- heard of, which we can see by the lack of comments even though the article was written in May, may suggest the validity is questionable. It talks about the success of the John Lewis campaigns, through the awards as well as taking note of the research that went into the making, yet remains impartial, merely giving the facts. John Lewis A bit like The Guardian, but not as high brow and more widely read online The John Lewis Christmas Campaigns "I heard it coming before I saw it" - Shows there was great discussion at the time. The lexis here is almost a collocation (saying). Showing the casual register and the purpose of entertainment. "shoe-less orphans being kicked in face first into a propeller" - This shoes once again the purpose of entertainment as this phrase would not be used in hard hitting journalism, showing the darker humour and the more likely male audience because of the violent tone. In the last paragraph Brooker is almost defending himself, showing that people may have said he was "cold" for not crying. It also shows that there are people that block emotions from adverts, for the simple reason they are adverts. Looking at all three articles we can see that the John Lewis adverts over the last three years have received a lot of attention. And have been observed and viewed as a part of Christmas. The three articles, although coming from similar sources present different ideas through the way the have been written and their purpose. Charlie Brooker's article in the Guardian presented a comical scathing review. This contrasted with the Daily Mail's positive description of the newest advert and the Marketing Magazines objective overview of Adam & Eve's work for John Lewis Marketing Magazine We can see the importance of the ad campaign within the music industry, by the success of the artists who provide the music. In all of these a warm light has been used, possibly adding to emotions which we connect to the story presented. Charlie Brooker is a comedian and is known for being cynical The Guardian is a widely circulated paper, with its website being the 2nd most read online newspaper behind the Daily Mail (http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/node/48232 - November 2011) This article might have been more widely read by males aged 20-40, who share similar views, read for amusement It is an opinion, but talks of the general feeling at the time (zeitgeist)

Transcript: • For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." • Aware now of their nakedness, they make coverings of fig leaves and hide from the sight of God. He asked them what they have done, and man blames the woman: "The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." In turn, the woman blames the serpent for seducing her to disobedience: "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." The Primordial light-energy being known as Adam was the first emanation of an unknowable first cause The primordial Adam is conflation of ideas that nay appear to be distinct, but become surprisingly muddled and interrelated when many sources are considered. • Adam and Eve, according to the creation myth of Abrahamic religion were the first man and woman. • The story of Adam and Eve is central to the belief that God created human beings to live in a Paradise on earth. • It provides the basis for the belief that humanity is in essence a single family, with everyone descended from a single pair of original ancestors. Ideas Adam & Eve • God curses the serpent "above all animals," causing it to become an eternal enemy of the human race. God also explicitly curses the ground because of Adam. Genesis only uses the word "curse" in referring to the serpent and the ground. God then passes judgment for the disobedience of the man and woman, condemning the man to sustain life through hard labor and the woman to create new life through painful childbirth Notes The Fall Of Adam Ideas Ideas Conclusion • After some reflection about the tree—that "the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom", the woman took some of the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it." • Though traditionally woman has received the major blame for the Fall of humanity, it is seldom mentioned that Adam was with her throughout the temptation and the disobedience. • The serpent, "more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made," tempts the woman to eat "of the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden" • She told her that you will not certainly die" and that "God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" Introduction

Transcript: Importance Of This Story Today Listen Don't give into peer preassure. There is always going to a consequence. Have faith in God. Actions speak louder than words. Listen to my Lord, he said not to eat from the tree so he sent Adam and Eve to the Earth where they start to learn about being faithful. In the beginning, God created the heaven and Earth then he created Adam, you know he dealt with him the nicest, and told him that the tree was dangerous, so don't touch it even in a crisis. God believed that item needed a mate, so he decided to create eve the great, then she decided to betray him like he was a bottle of foundation. All that God wanted was there and loyalty, something that they never did, something that they should have done, mmmmhmm. But they decided to betray the Lord, so just get ready fi listen to my Lord he said not to eat from the tree so he sent Adam and Eve to the Earth ner ner ner ner ner ner when will they learn x5 before the tables turn x5. Beg you Adam and Eve, baby don't you eat the fruit stuck up in the tree uh huh, if he had another chance to they would never no never betray you, I mean who are they to disobey you? I just hope that you understand, why the Lord kick them out, I hope they show more faith. What can I say I'm just trying to teach you all to listen to my Lord he said not to eat from the tree so we sat Adam and Eve to the Earth where they start to learn about being faithful. Yeah, OK you need to listen to what I'm saying carefully, we just need to understand that the body is weak and that's a fact. For instance, he saw you. When he saw the couple he just had to mess with them, if they showed more Faith it would be different for them, just like my buddy Noah. But you know they tried their best not to listen to the serpent. Everyone makes mistakes, but they had snakes tryna end them oh, yea once they bit that fruit they were finished X5. No longer welcome in the garden of Eden. They just need a face-to-face with God, he even picked the time and the place. In confession, but that's in the New Testament. And Listen to my Lord he said not to eat from the tree so he sent Adam and Eve to the Earth where they start to learn about being faithful mmmhmmm listen x5 mmmhmmm The Bible Adam + Eve How This Relates To Our World Summary On the 6-day God created man (Who was later named Adam). The Lord told Adam to name all the plants and animals in the garden of Eden. God put lots of fruits and vegetables in the garden for Adam to eat so that he was never hungry. The lord later decided that no man should be alone so he put Adam in a deep sleep and took a bone from his rib, so that he could create woman (who was later named Eve). God told them both never to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil because if they did they would die. The serpent was more creative when he tried to persuade Eve into eating from the forbidden tree. It made her question her faith by telling her that God does not want them to know the difference between good and evil like he does. When Eve finally ate from the tree she also got Adam to eat from it too. Once they ate from the tree they realized that they both were naked so they sewed leaves to make them clothes. God soon found out about the betrayal and came into the garden to find Adam and Eve. He banished them both from the garden and cursed the snake to crawl on its belly. God provided the couple with clothes to wear and told them to bear a child. In conclusion the story of Adam and Eve shows us that the flesh is weaker then the spirit because Adam and Eve both knew that they shouldn’t disobey God but they did it anyways. They were not thinking with their mind they were thinking with their bodies. Genesis 2:15-25 Genesis 3:1-24 15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s rib and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman, for she was taken out of man.”24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they

Transcript: Introduce the Story Shepard Questions Introduce the Story Dear God, This church is a family. Help us to learn together To worship together To share together To play together To pray together To come together And to reach out to everyone with family love! Amen. Opening Prayer Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God still loved and took care of them. Adam and Eve broke God’s rules. God was probably sad that they didn’t listen to the rules, but God never left them. Even when we do wrong things, God is always with us. Like Adam and Eve, we won’t always make the right choices. But God is always with us, encouraging us to do the right thing. And God loves us, even if we do mess up. The story of the first sin and how it affected us is sad. But the sadness is only part of the story. The most important character in the story is God, who never gives up on us. God is always with us. We can trust that God forgives all of our sins and loves us, even though we mess up sometimes. What a great thing to always remember! Adam & Eve Raise your hand if you have ever done something wrong. Have you ever wondered if God stopped loving you? Have you ever wondered why there is sin in our world? If God made the world and God is without sin, how did sin sneak in there? Who knows what the word “sinning” means? Are there consequences for doing something wrong? Dear God, This church is a family. Help us to learn together To worship together To share together To play together To pray together To come together And to reach out to everyone with family love! Amen. Closing Prayer This creation story shows God being very “hands on” in the work of creation. God’s hands get dirty doing the work of creation. God even breathes life into Adam’s nose. While I’m reading the story, you draw pictures of what you are hearing. You can draw one picture of God creating or you can draw several small pictures of each step you hear.
